“Bey’s back, and I sleep great at night,” Beyoncé sings on her hit “Break My Soul.” It couldn’t have been said better, given the recently announced Grammy nominations.

The list of nominees for the 2023 Grammy Awards, revealed on Tuesday November 15, marks the return with great fanfare of Beyoncé. It is on February 5 in Los Angeles that the 65th ceremony of the Grammy Awards, a prestigious American competition which rewards the musical talents of the country, will be held. Between Kendrick Lamar, Lizzo and Harry Styles, the one who stands out for the number of nominations is of course Queen Beyoncé, nominated in nine categories including best album for “Renaissance” and best single for “Break my soul”.

With a record 88 nominations this year, Beyoncé becomes the most nominated female artist in Grammy history, tied with her husband, Jay-Z. The singer, who has already surpassed the rapper in terms of statuettes (she has 28 and he has 24) is likely to set a new record. If Beyoncé wins four of her nine nominations, she will become the most Grammy-winning artist of all time, surpassing bandleader Georg Solti, who won 31 times.

Beyoncé vs. Adele: duel at the top

This 2023 edition looks very similar to that of 2017. At the time, Beyoncé was nominated in several categories, with “Lemonade” and her song “Formation”. In the end, Beyoncé walks away with two small victories while singer Adele crushes the competition by winning five awards with her album “25”, leaving Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” on the sidelines.

As in 2017, Adele comes to defend an album “30” and a single “Easy on me”. If she gets two fewer nominations than her opponent, the Briton has a good chance of winning too.

Six years after this defeat, Queen Bey seems determined to take revenge with her new album, the aptly named “Renaissance”. Premonitory?
